Hi Friends,
I just returned from a packed week in Dubai.
It was the 15th anniversary of Cartier Foundation’s Women’s Initiative Awards. Previous Fellows (including me!) were invited to gather for a week of networking, cultural events and exploring the World Expo 2020. We ended the week with an International Women’s Day ceremony at the Expo’s stunning Al Wasl Dome.
My highlights start at minute 48:10, with a moving mother daughter spoken word performance on intergenerational habits.
I see her struggle to live by the rules only then to see the rules threaten to swallow us…
I see her struggling to remember herself and then to only remember her training instead.
As a girl. Then a woman. Then a person, not allowed to burst forth unapologetically in this world.
Supporting Entrepreneurs
This past week hanging out with over one hundred other Founders from around the world has me thinking about the entrepreneurial journey. It’s highs, it’s lows, and how we evolve as entrepreneurs over multiple ventures over time.
This week, I’m sharing my thoughts on how investment funds, accelerators and companies can better support entrepreneurs. Not so much what entrepreneurs need, but my top five tips on how to get it to them.
Have a read and send me your experiences and ideas.
Where’s Melissa
Attending Dubai Expo 2020 was a dream come true for me. I loved seeing the architecture and drinking a kopi luwak pour over from the Indonesian pavillion before heading to Thailand for lunch.
I’ll be adding more field notes from Expo 2020 to my website soon.
Until next time,
Melissa
